This Jack O’ Lantern Beef Pie recipe combines Aussie minced beef, onion, mustard, and gooey mozzarella cheese, all wrapped in golden puff pastry. Shaped into jack-o’-lantern faces, these pies are fun, festive, and delicious, making them the perfect centrepiece for Halloween gatherings or family meals. Easy to prepare and bake, they bring both flavour and creativity to the table.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the Aussie minced beef and onion until the beef is browned and no longer pink. Drain off any excess fat.
Stir in the mustard and cheese, mixing until the cheese melts. Set aside to cool slightly.
Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut into circles about 10 cm wide. Place half of the circles on two greased baking trays (about 38x25 cm).
Spoon a generous 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture into the centre of each circle.
From the remaining pastry circles, cut out jack-o’-lantern faces with a sharp knife or cutter. Place these on top of the filled circles and press the edges firmly to seal.
Brush the tops with beaten egg. Bake at 200°C for 12–15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
